When Maggie Simpson Was Right: Why She Taught Me To Be A Feminist
When Maggie Simpson Was Right: Why She Taught Me To Be A FeministMaggie Simpson thinks that any essay topic about male chauvinism would be a good choice. Why? Because she is married to the sexiest man on television. Who knew that this character would turn out to be such a misogynist?Be honest. Do you enjoy reading a lesson about female empowerment in a college class or a memoir? Do you enjoy reading about that family business or political organization? Do you enjoy reading about a woman or girl from your past who was all about freedom and self-determination? Well, then chances are you enjoy reading about men.The reason for this is not because all men are sexist. It is not about men are inherently bad. No, if anything, men are just like everyone else. They have their good and bad characteristics and personalities, just like everyone else does.So you can see why there are good examples and bad examples. You can see how Maggie Simpson could be so turned off by some of her essay topics a nd yet still be able to understand it. In fact, a lot of men could relate to some of her mistakes and embarrassments. It makes you realize that even though Maggie Simpson believes in anything except feminism, a lot of men actually feel the same way. This is especially true when they read feminist literature.Just like women, men are not necessarily good or bad in general. They are just as capable of being angry and funny as any other human being.According to a recent survey, one in three women find that their partner has a problem with sexism. Now, this is very depressing news indeed. Unfortunately, these women have to endure many forms of sexism from their partners. But by learning about some of Maggie Simpson's mistakes and seeing her husband's shortcomings, they realize that it is not sexist to raise a family and express emotions.Men do not only need to understand feminism and learn to think for themselves, but also to have self-esteem. They need to understand that they should tre at their partner and children with respect and care. As Maggie Simpson said, 'Moms and dads get up in the morning thinking about how their kids are feeling.'Although Maggie Simpson didn't quite qualify as a feminist, it doesn't matter, because she has raised a child and knows what it means to be treated like a human being. It is necessary for all women to know their mistakes and not worry about whether or not they are really sexist. No, they should let go of all that bitterness and help all men better understand feminism and raise children.
